Description

This route takes you to the discovery of the Domaine de Bérinzenne located in the heart of the fagne de Malchamps. From the Pouhon Pierre le Grand spring, take the rue Royale, arrive at the Bobelines pavilion and head for the Place Verte where you will find numerous shops. You go up towards Berinzenne and the Fagnes de Malchamps plateau. The winding road climbs steeply, from 230 metres at Spa to 570 metres at the finish after five kilometres. This forest road is quite pretty and passes two old historical fountains: the Pouhons de Barisart and Géronstère. Between these two pouhons is one of the beautiful romantic walks along a stream: Meyerbeer, named after an opera composer who used to stay in Spa. You can stop here to drink the iron water which is open to the public and find out about the history on a sign. You can also eat here on the way back. What can you do in Berinzenne? You can go for a walk in the Fagne. Behind the large panoramic tower you can discover the vast expanse of the Fagnes de Malchamps plateau and the paths on duckboards. An explanatory map is available on a large board at the entrance, or at the reception near the car park, or near the tower. You can also visit the Forest Museum. This is a good place to learn about the fauna and flora of the Fens, and the water circuit. There are two pavilions that are often rented out for parties and barbecues. Another barbecue is open to the general public and free of charge near the pond and benches. A short educational walk with explanatory signs will help you understand the exceptional natural wealth of this area. If you want to cycle a few short loops in the heart of the forest or to go back and forth, you can take the Nelis path, which allows you to take another walk towards the arboretum. You can return to Spa via the village of Creppe by turning left after the Thier des Rexhons ski run. Another diversions takes you past the Manoir de Lébioles before you reach the bottom of the village. From Creppe to Spa, you go down a steep slope, the Avenue Henrijean where heritage lovers will admire the charm of the Belle Epoque villas. You will pass the level crossing and return to your starting point.
