This Gothic castle chapel, converted in 1710, belongs to the Royal Donation. A tombstone ensconced in the choir’s paving, shows a superb drawing of the lord of the village and his wife, both dressed in 15th century costumes, and bearing the lord’s coat of arms.
In 1935, the Belgium Automobile club took an interest in the then abandoned building, and their local correspondent decided to visit the chapel on the very same day that Queen Astrid passed away. That’s when he had the idea that – once restored - this Gothic chapel should become a tribute to Queen Astrid. Until 1940, the angelus tolled every day at noon. An anniversary mass is celebrated here on 29 August of every year, more often than not in the presence of members of the Royal family.
