The castle is private property.
There is an illustrated educational panel (in French and Dutch) illustrated by an old engraving in front of the entrance. You are now in front of the entrance to the castle of Vonêche. This castle was built by d'Artigues, the owner of the crystal factory, in 1806. The crystal factory’s buildings used to stand in the vast park opposite the castle.
The factory employed more than 650 workers in 1810. After Napoleon’s defeat, the crystal factory lost the French market. At the instigation of d'Artigues, the crystal factory of Baccarat was created. Misters Kemlin and Lelièvre, the directors in Vonêche, established Val Saint Lambert in 1826. When Belgium became independent in 1830, a significant portion of the market was lost. Increasing competition from Val-Saint Lambert forced the factory to close down. The castle is still inhabited by Baron d'Huart.
