The forest that you will cross through is called the “Bois de la Héronnerie”, named in honour of the many herons that used to populate the area. With a little luck, you will be able to observe one or several grey herons on the lookout on the border of the Lesse. This long-legged bird has mostly grey plumage. The adult has a white head with black brows, a black spot on its shoulder, and greyish-yellow beak and feet.
This oak and hornbeam forest is also a favourite spot for mycologists, due to the many mushroom species that thrive in these woods: horns of plenty, wood hedgehogs, and wood blewits, to name but a few.
