FORMER BELL FOUNDRY 'CAUSARD-SLEGERS' Bells and carillons !
The former Causard-Slegers bell foundry was started in 1832 by the Causard family. Thanks to its location on the stagecoach route that used to link France to Germany, the factory’s business expanded rapidly.
In 1970, the factory had to shut down, but nonetheless remains a major heritage site boasting a unique collection of bells, carillons and weather-vanes.
From 1830 to 1970, thousands of bells were cast in the bell foundry, using an age-old manufacturing process. Since its creation, the Tellin bell foundry has provided church bells for over 500 Belgian parishes. A number of large bells were manufactured here, namely that of the Liège cathedral, the Saint-Paulin church in Trier, the Maredsous Abbey Church, as well as the tenor bell that hangs in the Luxemburg cathedral.

Through the theme of time, the asbl Tellin-Fonderie aims to present the different stages of the manufacture of a bell. In the heart of the old Causard-Slégers foundry, you will have the opportunity to admire earthen molds used to make bells and remarkable church clocks.
The sounds of our carillon will accompany young and old alike for a dive into the ancestral times of the bell-makers, while you will discover how cowhide and horse-dung hair became indispensable to these craftsmen.
Do you know that Belgium, during its industrial boom, benefited from international renown in terms of campanarian achievements? Beyond its religious function, the bell always rhythms the life of the inhabitants, marking the passage of time and the events of importance by some specific ringing.
