The Viaduc de 8 arches (8 Arches Viaduct) was built in 1856 to enable the railway line from Chimay to cross the Vallée de lEau Blanche (White Water Valley). Built just a few hundred metres away from the
overflow of the Etang de Virelles lake, its stature is imposing and certainly makes it one of the most remarkable edifices in the Chimay region, standing 26.5 metres tall,
135 m long, and with 8 arches. It seems that the materials used were extracted from quarries near the edifice. The Grand-Pont (main bridge) was meant to be mined during the wars of
1914 and 1940, but narrowly escaped destruction.
