The mill's water wheel is hidden behind the block of houses and is difficult to see from here. The first written mention of the Belvaux watermill dates from et rad van de molen bevindt zich, but we suspect the mill is a lot older. In 1641, the mill became the property of the Baron Jacques Renard de Rouveroy, Lord of Lavaux, who forced the villagers of Belvaux, Bure, Tellin and Resteigne to grind their cereal there in exchange of a fee. The last important restoration dates from 1717. In 1837, Edmond d'Hoffschmidt, the hermit of Resteigne, became the owner of the mill, the farmhouse and the surrounding grounds. He lived there until his death in 1861. The mill changed hands a couple of times after that. The last miller, André Lamette, left in 1948.
