Halfway along the path, turn around and you will see the Léopold Tower, a vestige of the castle of the Ardennes built by Léopold I, which burned down and then destroyed in 1968. The private golf course that surrounds it– once an ornamental garden of the castle-turned-hotel–is considered one of the best in Belgium. The tower was based on the model of the Tower in Windsor Park. (See our “Gendron” trail for more information on the “royal” history of Houyet).
