The statue of the Belgian stand-up comedian Raymond Devos, inaugurated on 16 May 1998 during the 18th Rochefort International Comedy Festival was made by the Renard family, a family of sculptors. The statue is 1m75 (approx. 6ft) high and is made in Belgian bluestone from Avins (near Havelange). When the sculpting started, the uncut rock weighed about 4 tons. The final result only weighs about a ton. The pedestal that carries the weight of the statue was made to resemble a box of tricks from which Raymond Devos emerges like a jack-in-the-box.
The pedestal is made in black granite from South-Africa. The straw hat is made out of yellow granite from Vietnam, the ribbon in Zimbabwean black granite.
