This unique cohabitation of living hedges, patchwork fields, and woods makes Revogne a unique biotope. This also explains why the cellars of the former castle of Revogne are among the three places in Belgium that serve as a refuge and mating place of the lesser horseshoe bat.
This bat only hunts on the edge of the woods, close to patchwork fields bordered by hedgerows and indigenous living hedges, as they attract a wide variety of insects the bat is particularly fond of. Also, the continuity of the wooded areas within its hunting zone is essential; when hunting the bats stay alongside forest lanes, the edge of the woods, the hedges, and rows of trees, and never stray from these paths!
