There is little historical information available, but according to the Count of Villermont, the Château de Hauteroche (Hauteroche Castle) was mentioned for the first time in the early 15th century. The Château de Hauteroche or Haute Roche (meaning "High Rock") was a small fortress whose fate was always linked to that of the Château de Fagnolle. The county of Dourbes and Fagnolle was owned by the Princes of Ligne. In 1555, Dourbes was destroyed along with Fagnolle, during the siege of Mariembourg during the war between Charles Quint and Henry II. The fortress isolated on a rocky promontory was separated from the plateau by a wide moat. A door with 2 turrets and a drawbridge were the only means of access. The ruins of Haute Roche are now private property.
