At the end of the street, you will come across the impressive tower of 'Jeruzalemkapel' (Jerusalem Chapel), which is part of 'Adornesdomein' (Adornes Estate). The Adornes family, of Genovan origin, became one of the wealthiest families in Bruges in the 15th century. They were owners of a large mansion (located at Nr 3a in present-day 'Peperstraat' (Pepper Street)) and had the chapel built after the Adornes father came back to Bruges from a long trip to the Holly Land, together with his son, one of his 16 children!
Present-day 'Adornes Domein' is a museum, consisting of the 'Jeruzalemkapel', the former family mansion and a row of ''god's houses'' (see further). A multimedia exhibition inside the house makes you acquainted with the period, and makes you better understand how the life of wealthy people looked like at the time in Bruges. Opening times: Monday to Sunday, 10.00 a.m. < 5.00 p.m.
