The 'Chapelle Sainte-Anne' (St Ann's Chapel) near the village of Stoumont was originally erected along a very old path linking Stoumont to La Gleize. All what remains of the path today is the muddy forest path which you have been following since you left the tarmac road.
The first chapel was built (apparently around the year 1556) at the instigation of the Lords of Froidcourt, Guillaume del Dyck and his wife Isabeau de Vervoz. It was restored and extended several times in the course of the centuries. In past centuries, St Ann used to be called upon by villagers in the hope of being relieved from sterility or other ailments, as well as by maidens in search of a man to marry. A public market was held near the chapel on St Ann's Day (26 July), and, even today, the holly mass is given that day in the chapel. The chapel only opens to the public one day in the year, on St Ann's Day.
