Along the way, note the typical landscapes of the Famenne.
The Famenne, a vast depression between the Condroz and the Ardennes, stretches out over the provinces of Namur, Liège, and Luxembourg. It has an average altitude of about 150 metres, while the neighbouring plateaus rise to 300 metres in the Condroz, and 400 metres in the Ardennes. It is covered with forests (predominantly oak and hornbeam where the altitude is lowest and the humidity highest) and grasslands on the heavy soil. Revogne is also not far from the Calestienne (also referred to as the “limestone serpent”), a narrow strip of limestone with a silt-laden soil that stretches over the whole width of Wallonia south of the Famenne, crossing through the towns of Dion, Winenne, Beauraing, and Pondrôme, a village just a few kilometres away from Revogne.
