At the border of the territories of Nismes,Olloy and Dourbes, the Roche aux Faucons (Falcons' Rock), a peak 60 metres high, majestically towers over the Viroin and offers a superb viewpoint over the village of Olloy, as well as the Frimoye quarry.
The hill into which this quarry is "cut" is the spot known as Les Sangles, making reference to the defensive belt, the oppidum that sheltered the "Neolithic", Celtic and Romans armies and populations during times of war. This oppidum is naturally protected on three sides. Only one side had to be defended, and to this end, ditches and walls of logs filled with earth and stones were sometimes built.
At the bottom, you can see the exit of the CFV3V tunnel, which was just over 500 metres long, with the railway line passing through Olloy on its way to Vierves. Let's go down to the valley, but first let's enjoy the view of the Ardennes side once more. Here, it's the Calestienne, and there, on a clear line, it's the Ardenne that we will be walking along, from Olloy to Vierves.
