Once you have reached the corner of Rue de Wancennes and Rue de Vencimont, you will see a little heterogeneous farm dominated by a small medieval tower. It was the seat of a Liégeois estate that was owned in the 13th century by the Eve family (also known as “de Severy”), acquired in the 15th century by the Beaufort family of Celles, then in 1646 by the Mérode family (a very old Belgian aristocratic family, to whom the castle of Lavaux-Sainte Anne belonged at the beginning of the 16th century).
The building was converted into a Holiday Cottage, but was originally an outbuilding of the castle of Sevry that was destroyed during the fury of the French Revolution.
Not far from here, the current castle of Sevry (private property) was built by the Mérode family in the first half of the 19th century. It’s an imposing neoclassical-style building, surrounded by an enclosed park. In front of you, from the war memorial, you have an impressive view of the sceneries of the Famenne and of the tower of Sevry.
