The name of the road is a reminder that the village of Vonêche–the cradle of European crystal –is just a few kilometres away. At the beginning of the 19th century, the crystal factory of Vonêche was the largest English-style crystal factory in Europe. It also gave birth to Val Saint Lambert and the Baccarat crystal factories. Before becoming a crystal factory, the factory produced ordinary window glass and decorative cut glass.
A rather interesting fact is that, during the pogrom that took place November 9 and 10, 1938–the famous Crystal Night (“Kristallnacht” in German)–an incalculable number of synagogue windows, as well as Jewish shop and house windows, were broken; half of these windows were from Belgium.
