During your walk, you can see the railway line created by the Compagnie du Chemin de fer at the initiative of the Prince Joseph of Caraman-Chimay (aka
the Grand Prince) with the aim of connecting Chimay to Hastières. The first section departing from Chimay to Mariembourg was commissioned on 15 October 1858, which enabled
Chimay to be connected to the existing network in Mariembourg. This first section served the villages of Boussu-en-Fagne, Aublain, Lompret and Virelles. The Compagnie du Chemin
de Fer de Chimay was in fact the last private railway company to be taken over by the SNCB (on 01/02/1948).
