The rocks underpinning Spa were formed 570 million years ago in the Cambrian period, from marine deposits dating back 150 million years. The clays became schists and phyllades, while the sands became quartzites. The Roche Plate emerged 350 million years ago as a result of folding and uplifting, which fractured and straightened the rocks into the superimposed layers visible today.
Continuing the walk, the Roche Plate viewpoint offers a unique experience for young children and a magnificent panorama of Spa. You can admire the Rue Silvela, the Chemin Henrotte, the Britannique, the Waux-Hall, the church, the Pouhon, the Baths and the Petits Jeux. The view stretches as far as Creppe, Bérinzenne and the village of la Reid, contrasting with the steep slope to the north and the gentle slope to the south towards Creppe and la Vêquée.
