In the centre stands the curious twisted bell tower of Saint-Michel church. Jalhay, at the foot of the Hautes Fagnes and on the edge of the Hertogenwald forest, rises to an altitude of 672m. Half of its territory is part of the Hautes Fagnes Eifel nature park.
In 1012, Jalhay's destiny was linked to that of the Marquisate of Franchimont (with Sart, Spa, Theux and Verviers) until 1784, when they were annexed to France.
