On 27 August 1914, General LANGLE de CARY ordered his
units to engage in a decisive battle on the left bank of the Meuse. The colonial forces, 87th Infantry Brigade and 3rd Infantry Division fought off all the German attacks along the front at Cesse and Luzy-Saint-Martin.
