The monks of Stavelot Abbey were the ones who created this waterfall. They redirected a meander of the Amblève river to feed the mill located below the current Coo waterfall. However, it is likely that the water was already overflowing and spilling over the neighbouring rocks before this modification. It would therefore still be considered as a natural waterfall.
At the very beginning of the 19th century the waterfall was already attracting people! Coo was in fact part of the itinerary of the "Amusements de Spa". This was the beginning of the belgian and european tourism...
