The most famous legend about this rock tells that Remacle and his monks were building a monastery on the banks of the Amblève. On hearing the news, the devil set out with a huge rock to destroy the building. Warned of the plan, Remacle gathered all the monks' old shoes and went to meet the devil. He made him believe that he had worn out all the shoes since he left the abbey. The devil, discouraged, dropped heavily the rock you can see below the path.
