The monument in front of the church is there to remind us of the casualties suffered during WWI.
In 1914, Wanlin was first visited by French scouts; on 20 August the Wurttemberg cavalry occupied the village. They took hostages that were released after a night's detention. On 07 December 1916, 21 villagers were deported.
