Now we are about to arrive in Wanlin. The village of Wanlin, though mainly an agricultural village, is also known for its brick factory. The brick factory, that employed 25 people, and sadly enough closed its doors in April 2013, had celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011. While you walk through the village, note the omnipresence of red brick.
There was a time when house façades in Belgian bluestone were covered with baked bricks, as – quite paradoxically – bricks were considered a more ‘noble’ material….
