North of the town is the spot known as Beauchamp. The Château de Beauchamp (Beauchamp Castle), built by Prince Alphonse de Chimay, with its vast, jagged terrain, dated back to 1845.
In August 1914, German troops sacked then set fire to this beautiful house. It was rebuilt in the interwar period, only to be destroyed again in 1940.
The Bois Robert wood occupies the whole north-east of the Chimay area, at the edge of Froidchapelle and Virelles. It once belonged partly to the Princes of Chimay.
